Chasse wins USASA National Championship
SANDPOINT - Brennen Chasse is living the life that most 16-year-olds only dream of. Last Monday he won first place in the USASA National Men's Slopestyle competition, in the 16-19 year-old division for skiers. The win earned him the title of National Champion for his event.
Brennen executed misty 7's, front flips and spins in and out of many rails to beat his competitors, who were up to three years older than he is. There were 32 competitors in his category, all of whom had qualified for the competition at regional events across the nation.
“It was a pretty cool event, and I stuck both of my runs,” said Brennen through a huge grin.
His dad had a little more to say. “I am so happy for Brennen to already be taking his sport to this level. It was quite a thrill to be there with him and to watch him pull off his jumps with such skill!” Tom said. “His training and hard work have certainly paid off. Growing up in and around the industry has provided him with plenty of on-snow time to hone his skiing skills. His move from the east coast ski hills to Schweitzer has certainly helped take him to this level.”
Brennen plans to continue competing nationally, and hopes to qualify for the X-games as part of his long-term goals. The USASA Nationals is the largest snowboarding and free ski event in the world and was held at Copper Mountain, Colorado this year.
