Let's take responsibility for the next generation
While reading the Daily Bee I noticed that the Lake Pend Oreille School District had reviewed needs and was proposing a special plant facilities levy. I had just finished my own inspection of my home and really appreciate that our school district personnel are on the ball and on top of addressing facility needs.
Looking for more detail on the levy, I learned that the school district has a Web site (www.lposd.org) which gives detailed facts and information about the May 20 levy. Other questions can be answered by calling 263-2184.
I remember growing up how proud I was of our school and community. I did not realize then how much my parents, grandparents and their generations sacrificed to build and maintain the fine schools that we had. Now it occurs to me that the torch is in our hands.
How much pride do we take in our community? Are we willing to share responsibility for the next generation's success in the world? Our children are facing challenges that older generations did not have (increasing technology, a global economy, global terrorism, huge emigrant populations, etc.)
Education is the single most important factor in keeping our nation free, preserving our wealth and helping our children to compete in this world.
