Mary Kathryn Atteberry, 87,
Mary Kathryn Atteberry, 87, passed on April 6, 2008, in Coeur d'Alene. Private family services will be held at a later date. A life celebration will be held this summer at Bottle Bay.
She was born March 16, 1921, to Ted and Grace Krysto in Upland, Calif. Raised and educated in southern California, Mary Kay attended Alta Loma Grammar School, Chaffey High School and University of Southern California where she was a member of Gamma Phi Beta sorority, Amazons (a women's service honorary) and president of Mortar Board Society.
In 1943, she graduated with a bachelor of arts degree in marketing from USC and went on to work as a buyer in the stationery department at Bullocks Wilshire in Los Angeles.
On July 29, 1949; she married Ronald Atteberry following his discharge from the U.S. Army after serving in the European theater in World War II. The couple resided in Pasadena, Whittier, Indio, Hemet and Fallbrook before retiring to Sagle, Idaho, in 1980.
While living in southern California, Mary Kay and Ron designed, built, owned and operated mobile home parks and a nine-hole golf course. They also traveled and camped extensively with their children throughout the United States, Canada and Alaska (during the period of territory-to-statehood).
A love of hiking, swimming and boating kept Mary Kay active all her life. She even learned to scuba dive at age 65 in Hawaii. In her later years, she traveled around the world seeing as many sights and places as possible with her last “big trip” traveling to Hudson Bay to see polar bears.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, Ronald Hunter Atteberry. She is survived by her daughter and partner, Sunny Blende and Randy Hixon of Sausalito, Calif.; and her son and daughter-in-law, Rick and Tammy Atteberry of Coeur d'Alene; and her two grandchildren, Bryce and Kendi Atteberry.
