Support will give children tools needed to succeed
I understand taxes are a sacrifice. However, if our school facilities are in need of renovations then we need to take responsibility as those before us have done. If you doubt the needs, then tour the schools, visit the district Web site (www.lposd.org), attend meetings, or call 263-2184. Take some responsibility to get informed.
We moved to Sandpoint from a small farming town in eastern Oregon. There were few rich people there, but our schools were our pride. We still own one piece of rental property there and our taxes are triple per thousand what they are here. No one I know of has lost their home because of taxes and we always managed to support our schools. Our community was richer not poorer because of our support of education.
Our tax system allows each of us the privilege of being involved in helping our community. We see some members of the community constantly supporting various community projects with their time and money above and beyond taxes.
When others of us shirk and whine about responsibilities, what is our excuse?
When you pay justified taxes for schools feel good about it. You are investing in your community's future. You are saying to the children that education is important. You are saying to your children that their future is important. You are saying to your children that we will give them the tools they need to be whatever they wish to be and to accomplish whatever it is they wish to accomplish.
