Franklyn R. Washburn, 80

| April 14, 2008 9:00 PM

Franklyn R. Washburn, 80, of Hope, Idaho, returned to the Good Shepherd on April 3, 2008, after a very brief illness in Reno, Nev., at Renown Regional Medical Center. He was surrounded by his beloved family and devoted Puli pups.

Frank was born in Sioux City, Iowa, on April 30, 1927, to Loren and Myrtle Washburn. As a youngster, he moved to San Mateo, Calif., and graduated from San Jose State University, and served in the Army Air Corps (36th Fighter Group) during World War II. He was a member of the VFW of Clark Fork, ID.

During his full and happy 80-plus years, Frank filled his life with many passions and interests. First and foremost, he treasured any and all time he had with his family, and he enjoyed aviation (member of the Commemorative Air Force of Oakland, Calif.), Puli dogs (member of Puli Club of America), skiing (past member of Peninsula Ski Club of San Mateo and Prime Timers of Schweitzer Mountain Resort in Sandpoint), and RVing (member of Family Motor Coach Association for 24 years).

Frank is survived by his loving family - wife, Sally of Hope; son, Mark Washburn (wife Donna) of Big Bear Lake, Calif.; daughter, Karyn Jensen (husband Kurt) and granddaughters Taylor and Brooke Jensen of Reno, Nev.; and great-nieces, Lisa Arnbrister and Sylvie Barbash of Reno, Nev.

The family wants his doctors - Dr. Goodman, Dr. Anwar and Dr. Khaliqi (our “team of angels”) - to know how appreciative we are for their compassion and guidance during this very difficult time and also to the amazing nursing staff who cared for Frank in his final days with love. We couldn't be more grateful.

A memorial service by Pastor Dave Pretlove of Life Church and a celebration of Frank's life will be held on April 27, 2008, at Arrow Creek Country Club, 2905 Arrow Creek Parkway, Reno, Nev., from 3:30 - 6:30 pm.

His burial will be on his birthday at 1:30 p.m. on April 30, 2008, at Skylawn Memorial Cemetery in San Mateo at Highway 92 and 35.

We will miss our daddy, husband, uncle, grandpa, Puli daddy and friend Frank so very much - but you will never be very far from our thoughts or our hearts. You were the best to each of us. Thank you for all you taught us about life and love.

In lieu of flowers, the family would greatly appreciate donations be made to: Huntsman Cancer Foundation for cancer research at 500 Huntsman Way, Salt Lake City, Utah 84108.
