Lenora (Houskeeper) Spiller

Lenora (Houskeeper) Spiller died in Newberg, Ore., on March 24, 2008.

She was born March 28, 1923, in Mountain Home, Utah. She graduated from high school there.

She then moved to Sandpoint, Idaho, with her family. She worked in a laundry shop, drove a milk truck delivering milk to stores and a telephone operator.

Lenora met Gene Spiller at the USO Club in Sandpoint during the war. Gene was shipped off to the Philippines and Lenora went to Bremerton, Wash., to work in the shipyards.

Lenora and Gene were married in 1946.

After having three of their children, Lenora went to school and trained to be a licensed practical nurse. She worked at Bonner General Hospital and private care.

The couple moved to Newberg in March 1990 to be closer to their daughters and to get away from the cold winters in Sandpoint.

Lenora loved worked with all the new babies in OB at Bonner General and was happiest holding babies.

She also loved to knit, crochet, and make quilts. She loved to play pinochle with family and good friends.

Lenora was on kidney dialysis for almost five years. She also suffered from Alzheimer’s disease for several years.

Survivors include Bonnie Stradley of Ocean Park, Wash., Jeanie Rhodes of Newberg, Dan Spiller of Spokane, Wash., and Roy Spiller of Rathdrum, Idaho; two sisters, Rosetta Houskeeper of Ogden, Utah, and Donna Plotnik of Weippi, Idaho; and 12 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
