Winter nabs fourth place-finish at regionals

SPOKANE — Sandpoint gymnast Stormi Winter had a phenomenal meet last weekend at the Region II Championships at the Warehouse in Spokane, qualifying for a spot in the upcoming Western Championships in St. Louis.

Winter tied for fourth in the All-Around of the Junior D division, posting an overall score of 36.550. She was competing with 107 Level 9 gymnasts from Idaho, Washington, Oregon, Montana, Alaska and Hawaii. She tied for 10th on vault with an 8.850, tied for 6th on bars with a 9.000, placed 2nd on beam with a 9.500 and tied for 7th on floor with a 9.100.

The outstanding performance of Stormi and her Funtastics teammates, most of whom are from the Coeur d’Alene area, qualifies them to compete at the Level 9 Western Championships, May 5-11, in St. Charles, Missouri. The Western Championships includes 4 Regions which are comprised of 25 states. This is the “Nationals” event for Level 9 gymnasts. The top six gymnasts in each age group will compete as a regional team against the top six gymnasts from the other regions. 386 athletes have qualified to compete at the Western Championships.
