Sandpoint falls to Moscow
SANDPOINT - Justin Vaughn and Mikka Nostdahl teamed up at No. 1 boys doubles for the first time, winning convincingly in straight sets as host Sandpoint fell to 4A tennis rival Moscow 7-5 at Travers Park and Lakeview Courts Friday. Vaughn recently returned from a knee injury and Nostdahl made the switch from singles.
Dustin Pierce won in straight sets for the other boys win during a match which started under a light rain before the sun came out and dried the courts. Jess Lindenberg won at No. 2 girls singles, and Ryan Williams and Piper Wahlin cruised to a straight set win at No. 1 mixed doubles. Head coach Jane Rockwell was just happy to get her kids on the court after a spate of recent cancellations.
“All in all I feel like court time has been our biggest drawback,” said Rockwell, lauding the play of Vaughn and Nostdahl. “I was impressed, they complimented each other's games.”
Sandpoint hosts Coeur d'Alene on Tuesday.
