SANDPOINT — The Greater Sandpoint Chamber of Commerce is accepting applications for Leadership Sandpoint 2009.

The two-year program begins September 2008 and is designed to acquaint participants with the community and provide a network to interact with key leaders in Bonner County.

“The mission of the chamber is to promote, develop and support the business community in the greater Sandpoint area. This program helps us identify and motivate potential community leaders to further our goals as a chamber,” said Amy Little, executive director of the chamber.

“An active and engaged community is absolutely essential for our success.”

Leadership Sandpoint meets one day per month in working sessions. During sessions, students explore a variety of political issues, history, human services, health, spirituality, natural services, and a host of other topics that are important to Bonner County. During the first year, the class is tasked with planning and implementing a community project.

The program continues for another year where students take the knowledge they have received and apply it in a number of ways. As a group, they will lead the next year’s class by coordinating sessions for Leadership Sandpoint and Youth Leadership. This process allows students to continue to build their network with their classmates and the community while also demonstrating their new leadership skills.

“We are looking for people who care about our community and want to be involved to continue the legacy of Leadership Sandpoint,” said Judy Thompson, Leadership Sandpoint chairman.
