Elks host Patriotic Scramble golf tourney

| August 26, 2008 9:00 PM

SANDPOINT — The Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks, Sandpoint Lodge No. 1376, hosted the first ever Patriotic Scramble to benefit Vietnam Veterans last Sunday.

The National Veterans Service Commission has pledged that “so long as there are veterans, the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks will never forget those who have served our great country.”

In our ongoing support of this pledge, the Sandpoint Elks Lodge #1376 hosted the first of what we hope will become an annual event — the Patriotic Golf Scramble. This years’ profits are being donated to the local chapter of the Vietnam Veterans of America who help and support all North Idaho Veterans. The money raised from this scramble will assist this organization in their quest to provide assistance for needy veterans and/or their families.

The tournament was full and highlights included the Watsons Raiders team winning the low gross and the Vietnam Veterans team winning the low net. This was a very close tournament with only a few strokes between the first and last place teams.

The interest, energy and generosity of the community in support of the patriotic scramble was overwhelming. Approximately $3,500 was raised for the worthy cause.
