Students' tribute means a lot to area veterans
On Veterans' Day, 40 veterans of various services walked into Sandpoint High School gym on the arms of lovely SHS ladies to a standing ovation from student body. The feeling was that of appreciation for our service to our country whether in war or peace.
We are proud of our service time or we wouldn't be there.
The program they presented included the choir singing, a speech by one of the students and a slide show with some local veterans, then the playing of "Taps," which can make most veterans feel a little teary eyed.
My hope is that the ceremony, which had an effect on the veterans in attendance, also made the student body feel that it is well worth being an American.
The student body can be proud of the ceremony they put on and if they do it again next year, I'll be there.
