Local quartet teams up to open Gallery Off Cedar

| December 2, 2008 8:00 PM

SANDPOINT - Sandpoint is nationally known for its thriving arts community, and four local artists hope to build on that reputation with the opening of their own downtown gallery.

A joint venture with the Timber Stand Gallery, the Gallery Off Cedar will showcase the work of local artists Connie Scherr, Barbara Field, Mary Gayle Young and Cassie Tauber. The four women have shown extensively throughout the Northwest, but felt their presence in Sandpoint was lacking.

When space became available in the Timber Stand Gallery, the women took the plunge and began designing a gallery they believed would fit perfectly with Sandpoint's downtown aesthetics.

While the gallery could host guest artists in the future, for now the space will be used to showcase Scherr's watercolor and oil paintings, Field's watercolor and acrylic paintings, Young's gem jewelry and Tauber's free-form glass shapes and sculptures.

The gallery officially opened Dec. 1, but Scherr, Field, Young and Tauber will host a gala reception Dec. 12 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. to celebrate the venture.

The Gallery Off Cedar is located in the Timber Stand Gallery at 225 Cedar St.
