| December 5, 2008 8:00 PM

The Wampus Cats fell 62-24 on the road at Newport in nonleague girls basketball action Friday night.

Shaina Gustafson led the Cats with seven points, nine rebounds and seven steals, and Amy Gannon, Celeste Komanec and Brocklynn Thornton each added four points in defeat.

"Newport played tough man defense and we struggled to move the ball around," said Cats coach Dexter Vogel, who did manage to find a silver lining in defeat. "We put in a new offense yesterday and worked it better than the one we've run for two years. We just need to build confidence in ourselves."

Jessica Cartmell scored two and Martin one to round out the scoring for the Cats (3-5), who host Kootenai on Tuesday.
