Gerda Lundblad, 92

| December 9, 2008 8:00 PM

Gerda Louise Lundblad, 92, of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, passed away Dec. 3, 2008, with family members at her side.

She was born March 23, 1916 in Butte, Mont., to Simon and Johanna Anderson, who emigrated from Sweden.

Gerda was raised on a farm in Selle near Sandpoint, Idaho, and graduated from Sandpoint High School. While training to become a nurse, she met the love of her life, Roland Lundblad, whose parents had also emigrated from Sweden.

They were married April 16, 1937, and resided in Spirit Lake, Idaho. They moved to Dover and that was home from 1942 until 2004 when she moved to Coeur d'Alene to be closer to her family.

While in Dover, she was a member of the Lutheran Church, the election board, and was an avid walker, participating in Bloomsday and other similar events.

Gerda was a skilled seamstress designing and making quilts for family and friends.

She especially enjoyed meeting people, with a smile, and was always so welcoming - people loved her. She also cared for Roland's father, John, for many years and returned to nursing at Bonner General Hospital after raising her family.

She attended many Sandpoint Bulldog games and enjoyed Coeur d'Alene Viking basketball.

The owner of the Dover Bay Development named one of the streets "Lundblad Place" and she was extremely proud of that.

Gerda was preceded in death by her husband, Roland; her parents, two sisters, and a brother. She is survived in spirit and memory by her son, Dean Lundblad and wife, Sharon of Coeur d'Alene; grandchildren, "DJ" Lundblad (Marni), Kurt Lundblad (Dawn), and Erika Lundblad-Grubar (Dan), all of Coeur d'Alene; great-grandchildren, Mikayla, Luke, Lance, Broody, Kaylin, Gracie, and twin boys, Dylan Dean and Carter Martin, all of Coeur d'Alene; and a daughter, Karen of Oregon.

A special "thank you" to Dr. Susan Melchiore, Dr. Hugh Leedy, the staff at Ivy Court, and her friends in Bonner County.

A family graveside memorial service celebrating her life will take place in May 2009 at the Greenwood Cemetery in Spirit Lake.

Yates Funeral Home is in care of the arrangements. You may visit Gerda's online memorial and sign her guestbook at www.yatesfuneralhomes.com.
