Take a moment to reflect on season's true meaning

| December 10, 2008 8:00 PM

So many times, we become so busy that Christmas becomes shopping, presents, mistletoe, Santa, and reindeer. My friends, this is not the case! Christmas is exactly what it says it is.

Let's take the word apart. "Christ" is referring to Jesus Christ, who is God and came to earth, was born of a virgin, and died for you and me. The "mas" part of the word means leisure, feast or holiday. Therefore Christmas refers to a time where we don't work and we celebrate a holiday with feasting and it is all centered on Jesus Christ, the savior of the world.

Truly, the story of Christmas is the most wonderful story, but Jesus did more than just come to earth. That is why Easter is also a national holiday. Jesus came to earth (Christmas), lived a perfect life, and then died on the cross for the sins of the world. He was buried but He didn't stay in the tomb. He rose on the third day (Easter), just as was prophesied in Scripture.

So this Christmas, stop and think. Think about Jesus, why He came, what He did, and what He offers you — eternal life.

If you have any questions on this subject, I'd love to hear from you. I can be contacted at hegavehisson@gmail.com.

Merry Christmas!
