Don't waste time on TV, read a good book instead
Here it is; winter rapidly approaching. Many of us look forward to skiing and can hardly wait to get on the slopes. Others look forward to other winter activities. And others dread the coming of the snow. I mean minimal outdoor activities, other than shoveling snow, which none of us look forward to.
Of course, the typical solution to entertainment is watching TV. While there are many good programs on TV, there is also a lot of drivel. I have a solution; read a book.
I've gone through the same existence as many of you have; watch TV and, on occasion, read a book. I definitely prefer novels; others prefer non-fiction. A couple of years ago I got interested in reading some novels that my wife had read and suggested. The first one was Caravan by James Michener; a novel about the history of Afghanistan, a fascinating story, particularly in this political climate. Then I went to our fabulous new library. While leafing though various books I noted that the due date in many of the well-known novels had only been checked out three or four times per year! Thus, this letter.
Recently I goggled famous authors since 1900 and came up with a list of 10; I won't mention the entire list, however, one author was Winston Churchill, who wrote eight novels ranked in the top 10 between 1900 and 1915. So, my suggestion when facing a boring evening, check out a book.
