CLARK FORK - A sloppy first half proved costly for the Wampus Cats, who fell 49-34 to Lakeside in a battle of North Star League powers Tuesday night in Clark Fork.

Shaina Gustafson led the Cats (4-6, 3-1 NSL) with seven points, nine rebounds, four steals and four assists, but Lakeside (6-1, 3-0 NSL) jumped out to a 17-4 fourth quarter lead and never looked back.

"We can compete with them, but just didn't play like we can in the first half," said Cats coach Dexter Vogel. "We came back and cut the lead to eight in the fourth quarter, but they scored a lot of points right  at the end."

Rian Miller scored 11 to lead the balanced Knights, who also got 10 points from Hannah Donnerberg, nine from Ruth Brunelle and eight from Joelle Miller.

Amy Gannon and Brocklyn Thornton six for the Cats, who will play up against 3A competition at the Newport Tournament on Friday.
