U.S. 2 crash injures 2 people
LACLEDE - Two people were injured Sunday after an Oldtown woman lost control of her car and crashed head-on into another vehicle on U.S. Highway 2, according to Idaho State Police.
State police said Shirley P. Garrett was westbound in the Thama area when she lost control of her Subaru Legacy on a curve and crashed into an eastbound Volvo station wagon carrying four people.
Garrett, 63, was not wearing a seat belt and was taken to Bonner General Hospital for treatment, ISP said. The driver of the Volvo, Daron E. English, 44, of Priest River was wearing a seat belt and escaped injury, state police said.
William English, a passenger in the station wagon, was injured and taken to Newport Community Hospital in Washington and later transferred to an unspecified hospital in Spokane, state police said. The Volvo's other occupants - Patty and Terriann English - were not injured in the collision, an ISP news release said.
State police said roads were extremely icy in the 4:30 p.m. crash. Garrett was cited for driving too fast for conditions and going left of center on the highway.
The highway was closed for about an hour.
