We must deal with legacy of torture

| December 31, 2008 8:00 PM

The torture regime that was promulgated by the Bush administration is a clear sign of fascism and must be ended.

Those responsible in the Bush administration for advocating and trying to legally justify torture should be held accountable if this country is to adhere to the rule of law. At the very least, there should be investigations by Congress to gather evidence as to how such a regime was created.

For those who don't believe that such a disgusting state of affairs has occurred, I recommend the carefully researched book, "The Dark Side," by the journalist Jane Mayer as a guide to how the policy of torture took hold in our government.

It is not something to be proud of, and we must deal with it.
