Clark Fork girls drop district opener to Kootenai
SPIRIT LAKE — Kami Haynes came off the bench and scored all six of her points in the opening minutes of the third quarter to lead Kootenai past Clark Fork in the opening round of the 1A District 1 Tournament Wednesday night at Timberlake High School.
Shaina Gustafson led No. 4 Clark Fork (11-10), which outscored No. 1 Kootenai 9-0 in the second quarter, with 12 points. But after the stellar defensive effort, the Cats could only muster three points of their own in the third quarter, then four in the fourth as Kootenai put the game away.
"Let's just say it was an interesting halftime talk," said Warrior coach Mike LaFountaine, whose team didn't score a point in the second quarter. "Kami came off the bench and scored our first three baskets of the second half and I thought that made a big difference."
Haleigh Frank drew her fourth foul early in the third and sat out most of the quarter. She went back in in the fourth period and came up with three big offensive rebounds for putbacks, scoring nine of her game-high 13 points in the final eight minutes.
Kootenai (7-12) will play Lakeside/Wallace tonight at 7:30 p.m. for the district championship. Clark Fork will play Lakeside/Wallace in a loser-out game at 6.
