Sandpoint Volleyball Club notches impressive finish in U18 tournament
SPOKANE — The Sandpoint Volleyball Club U16 team had its second strong showing of the year, finishing second overall out of 24 teams in the Sideout February Classic in Spokane.
The second place finish is made even more impressive considering it was a U18 tournament, the well-seasoned Sandpoint squad more than holding their own against girls a couple years older.
"It was good for us because the pace of play and power was much higher," said coach Jack Dyck. "We played some quality teams, were able to lift our level up a little bit. It was a high caliber tournament and we bucked up, made adjustments and out-toughed some teams to get to the finals."
The Sandpoint team beat the No. 2 and No. 3 seeds early in the draw, then beat U18 VIP of Spokane in three games to advance to the finals. In the finals they lost to U18 Side Out from Spokane.
Their next tournament is in Yakima in March, then they plan to play in a couple of national qualifiers after that.
