Season ends as Bulldogs fall to Lakeland
RATHDRUM — Tanner French scored 12 and Spencer Swerin 10, but it wasn't enough to keep Sandpoint's season alive, as they fell 59-43 to Lakeland in the loser-out game of the 4A District 1 tournament Tuesday night at Lakeland High School.
Sandpoint was able to keep it close for a while, down only 22-20 at half, but without the services of senior guards Alex Crossingham and Ryan Armbruster, the Bulldogs (6-16) could not hang with the Hawks (7-14). Without a potent outside shooting threat, Lakeland held Spencer Swerin only 10 points, nine less than he had in the Bulldogs' win over the Hawks last week.
Kyle Gibson added eight, Talis Siegel six and Bryce Olin five in the loss.
Cody Moreland led the Hawks with 12, and they'll head to Moscow on Thursday in the double elimination tournament.

? Mariners' broadcaster Niehaus wins award
SEATTLE (AP) — Longtime Seattle Mariners broadcaster Dave Niehaus is going into the Baseball Hall of Fame.
Niehaus is the 2008 winner of the Ford C. Frick Award for broadcast excellence. He will be honored during the Hall of Fame induction ceremony July 27, at Cooperstown, N.Y. The announcement Tuesday came on Niehaus' 73rd birthday.
"It doesn't hit you really until they say you've won the award," Niehaus said. "It's the most humbling experience, without a doubt, I've had in my life. It's the biggest thrill in my life. For us in the broadcasting business, it's our Oscar."
Niehaus worked with the California Angels from 1969-1976 and joined the expansion Mariners in 1977. He was inducted into the Mariners' Hall of Fame in 2000 and is known for his expression "My, oh my" for big plays.
"Dave Niehaus is the heartbeat of Mariners baseball. Since Day One, he has painted a picture of baseball and summer in Seattle better than anyone ever has," Dale Petroskey, president of the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum, said in a news release.
? Nets send Kidd to Mavericks in 8-player trade
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) — The Jason Kidd era is over in New Jersey.
The New Jersey Nets and Dallas on Tuesday completed a trade sending the All-Star to the Mavericks, who now have one of the NBA's best point guards as they look toward the playoffs. This will be Kidd's second stint with Dallas.
The eight-player deal, in the making since before the All-Star break, sends Kidd, forward Malik Allen and guard Antoine Wright to Dallas for point guard Devin Harris, center DeSagana Diop and swingman Maurice Ager, plus retired forward Keith Van Horn and Trenton Hassell. New Jersey also gets two first-round draft picks and $3 million.
