Oakley lands spot on All-IEL second team

| February 21, 2008 8:00 PM

Sandpoint junior shooting guard Brittany Oakley was named to the All-Inland Empire League second team, as voted on by the leagues coaches. Oakley emerged as the Bulldogs' top scoring threat this season, and her high-pressure perimeter defense created much havoc. Oakley, who averaged 11 points, five assists and three steals per game, was the lone Bulldog honored in arguably the best league in the state.

"As a 4A player in a loaded 5A league, that's a great honor," said Bulldogs coach Jim Alsager, noting he can't vote for his own players. "The rest of the league saw what I saw: playing both ends of the floor, the scoring and the leadership. She deserved to be on that team."

Lake City junior post Katie Baker was named Player of the Year.

Coeur d'Alene freshman post Carli Rosenthal was named Newcomer of the Year.

Chris Johnson of Post Falls was named Coach of the Year.
