People to think about

a divided Sandpoint

This letter is about the word "exclusive. "I think most people would agree that the condos near City Beach, the development of the Trestle Creek and Moose Mountain areas, and quite a few of the other subdivisions and homes being developed in and around Sandpoint can be fairly characterized as exclusive.

I do not dispute the rights of those with the means to build, buy, live in, or otherwise use these areas. I just want the citizens of the Sandpoint area to think about what that word really means. How "exclusive" do you want Sandpoint to become?

ex?clu?sive (adjective) — as defined in "exclusive." The American Heritage(R) Dictionary of the English Language, Fourth Edition. Houghton Mifflin Company, 2004.

1. Excluding or tending to exclude: exclusive barriers.

2. Not allowing something else; incompatible: mutually exclusive conditions.

3. Not divided or shared with others: exclusive publishing rights.

4. Excluding some or most, as from membership or participation: an exclusive club.

5. Catering to a wealthy clientele; expensive: exclusive shops.
