Post Falls doubles up on Bulldogs
SANDPOINT — Playing their sixth game in seven days, the Post Falls girls looked anything but tired, scoring 26 first quarter points and running away from Sandpoint 62-31 Wednesday night in IEL action at Les Rogers Court.
Katelyn Loper had a big night for the Trojans (12-2, 4-2 IEL), scoring a game-high 22 points to go along with four steals. The sophomore wing did much of her damage in the third quarter, when she hit three consecutive pull-up 3-pointers off the break, none of which touched the rim.
"She's been on a terror lately," said Post Falls coach Chris Johnson of Loper, noting he was proud of how hard his team worked after winning a tournament recently in Las Vegas. "She was red-hot in Vegas, glad to see she hasn't cooled off coming north."
Jenny McVeigh and Jordan Schoening each added 10, and Denise Schmidt added seven points and six rebounds to pace the Trojans, who held Sandpoint scoreless in the fourth quarter.
Christina Johnson and Alissa Tenuto each scored eight to lead the Bulldogs (4-8, 1-3 IEL), and Koko James added four points and seven rebounds. Sandpoint coach Jim Alsager said Post Falls is a difficult team to match up with because their big players can all move. He hopes his team can bounce back like they did earlier in the season after a tough loss to Coeur d'Alene.
"I told them they have no time to keep their chins down," said Alsager, alluding to a big 4A North showdown at Moscow on Friday. "I know they'll bounce back; they're resilient."
Sandpoint plays at Moscow Friday night.
