Lake City grinds out win over Sandpoint
SANDPOINT — Lake City posted 15 team steals, took away Sandpoint's inside game and played a stingy brand of defense, grinding out a 52-35 win over the Bulldogs in Inland Empire League action Tuesday night at Les Rogers Court.
Nick Fromm scored 11 points and pulled down nine boards, and Nate Frisbie scored 10 to go with five assists as Lake City (8-3, 3-1 IEL) held Sandpoint to only two 2-point field goals while holding them to single digit scoring in three of the quarters.
"They (Sandpoint) were knocking down threes all night and made a couple of nice runs at us," said Lake City coach Jim Thacker, adding his team will need to clean things up defensively before their showdown with Coeur d'Alene on Friday. "We were helping inside too much and they kicked it out."
Sandpoint (4-7, 0-4 IEL) knocked down eight 3-pointers, and managed to claw back to 28-25 midway through the third quarter before Lake City went on a game-clinching run. Tanner French scored 11, Ryan Armbruster added nine, and Spencer Swerin seven points and six rebounds in the loss.
"Bulk turnovers in stretches was the difference," said Sandpoint coach Lance Bruce. "They (Lake City) went to Fromm and we had to start doubling him. They took advantage of that back side. I thought we battled them defensively and got a lot of hands on balls to make the run."
The Sandpoint boys and girls both play at Lakeland Friday night in a big 4A North clash. Bob Witte will have the call for both games live on AM 1400. The girls tip off at 6, and the boys at 7:30 p.m.
