Sandpoint pins wins in wrestling duals
POST FALLS — Sandpoint had a huge day from the lower weight classes to register wins over Chewelah and Capital during the first day of the River City Duals at Post Falls High School Friday night.
Garret Belgarde (103 pounds), Timmy Pepperdine (112), Jacob Porter (119), Colter Sigman (125), Will Hughes (130), Leonard Fister (145) and Paul Marienau (160) each won both of their matches to lead Sandpoint. Bulldogs head coach Kirk Hartzell was pleased with how his team competed, noting Colter Sigman and Jacob Porter had huge wins in the match against Capital, including a pin by Porter on a move he learned two days ago.
"The kids are competitive right now, learning to compete as a young team," said Hartzell. "The guys are scrapping right now. I like how they ended the day."
Anneliese DeAragon (140), Lloyd Hammack (171), Cody Olds (189) and Terry Taylor (215) each added wins against Chewelah in the first match. Against Capital, Sandpoint was down 30-6 at one point before the top of the order came up and dominated the rest of the match.
Sandpoint wrestles Wallace today at 10 a.m. and Rogers (Spokane) at 2 p.m. The 11th-22nd matches take place at 3:30, followed by the top 10 matches at 5 p.m.

? Late 3-pointer leads Hawks past Bulldogs
RATHDRUM — An Alyana Watson 3-pointer with 32 seconds left, her only points of the game, broke a 30-30 tie and propelled host Lakeland to a 34-30 Inland Empire League win Friday night in the first game ever at the Hawks' brand new gymnasium.
Camille Reynolds scored 12 points to lead Lakeland (4-11, 2-6 IEL) in a game that featured many momentum changes before Watson's dagger put things out of reach.
Brittany Oakley scored eight to lead Sandpoint (6-10, 2-6 IEL), and Alissa Tenuto and Lynn DiBenedetto each scored six in the loss. Sandpoint played solid defense for most of the night, including holding the Hawks to quarters of four and one points, but failure to capitalize on some point-blank looks offensively may have cost Sandpoint the game.
Sandpoint hosts Coeur d'Alene on Tuesday.
