Dolores Mabel Parsons, 84

Dolores Mabel Parsons passed away early Sunday morning, Jan. 20, 2008, at the Vashon Island Care Center where she lived from July 2003, until her death.She was 84.

She was born the eldest daughter of Romain and Mabel (Plum) Haroldson in Coeur d'Alene in 1924. She graduated from Central High School in Spokane, Wash., where she met her future husband, Albert E. Parsons. They married in July, 1942 and bore two children, David and Dwayne.

She is survived by her sisters, Priscilla Hanenberg of Austin, Texas, and Marjorie Finley of Spokane and was preceded in death by her older brother, Arthur Haroldson and her husband, Albert. Her eldest son, David, is now known as Father Tryphon, abbot of the All-Merciful Saviour Russian Orthodox Monastery on Vashon Island. Her youngest son, Dwayne, is an author living with his wife, Claudia, in Sandpoint, Idaho. Mrs. Parsons' granddaughter, Sarah Parsons, resides in Boston, Mass.

Dolores and Albert Parsons moved from Spokane, where Albert was assistant pro at Downriver Golf Course, to Sandpoint where he became the pro at the Elks Public Golf Course. Dolores, having served as organist for many years at Trinity Lutheran Church in Spokane, became the organist at First Lutheran Church of Sandpoint. Mrs. Parsons was a nationally-known, award-winning piano teacher, who taught piano and organ in Sandpoint for many years.

The Parsons' converted to the Orthodox Church, and were members of St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church in Post Falls, Idaho.

A Panikhida service was served in the monastery's temple on Vashon Island, on Wednesday, Jan. 23. A funeral service will take place at St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church in Post Falls at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 26, with viewing from 9-11 a.m. Internment will be in the St. John Orthodox Cemetery next to the church, where Mrs. Parsons will be laid to rest next to her husband, who died in 2000.
