Born July 23, 1916 in Lebonon, S.D., Vesta Mae Garrison grew up and, in 1936 at 20 years of age, married Elwood Argyle Berry in Los Angeles, Calif.

Eventually to be known as “Poppa Berry.” Ga and Poppa were married 45 years before his passing in 1981. They spent 20 years as residents of Cocolalla, Idaho. She continued her life journey for 27 more years without him.

Ga lived life as an example to everyone of personal strength and grace. She had a calm and peaceful manner and was quick to smile or laugh. She was an excellent seamstress and enjoyed to knit and crochet.

There was always something yummy in her kitchen. Some of the favorites were her apple pie and raspberry dessert. She also canned the fish that Poppa caught all summer long then smoked in the fall. A great treat during the long winter months spent dreaming of summer again.

Vesta is preceded in death by her husband, Elwood; daughter, Maralyn Heki in 1988; and her son, Mark Berry in 2007. She is survived by daughters, Gail (Bob) Wilcock in Henderson, Nev., and Dede (Steve) Christensen in Tempe, Ariz.; numerous grandchildren, including Aaron, Steven and Juliann (Unger) Heki, all having grown up in Cocolalla; numerous great-grandchildren, including Sarah (Dickson) Anna (Hathaway), Alan, Elizabeth and Joseph Heki, all from Sandpoint, Sybil (Hamilton) and Sam Tolley, Patrick Heki; great-great-grandchildren, Chela, Tanner, Trinity, Wyatt, Mattiesyn in Sandpoint and Zoe Heki in California.
