Wheeler backs center

One of the many reasons that I supported Daryl Wheeler for Sheriff of Bonner County is his stance on the Bonner County Commissioners proposal to build a 60-bed work release facility and to expand the Juvenile Detention Center. It is not only the issues, but also Daryl's intelligence and integrity to challenge such a move by Bonner County commissioners. Daryl has enough courage and integrity to challenge the legality of another one of their proposals that would bypass the voters of Bonner County, the very people that put them into office by the “public trust.”

I, like many others in this county am not against updating the jail but do not like this proposal and the way it has “not” been sufficiently been presented to the voters of Bonner County. As law enforcement officers we are held to a high standard of accountability to the publics trust. We take that oath seriously. Are the commissioners not under the same oath of office?

According to Idaho State Statute, the single most important role of the sheriff of a county is to provide and maintain the county jail facility. It only seems prudent to me that if you have two sheriff's candidates that are not in agreement with this proposal, the whole of the proposal is a “moot” point!

Daryl Wheeler's statement of “raising the standard of service” is absolutely the epitome of intelligence and due diligence required to make a good leader for the people.

Daryl's mission statement is, “Under my leadership, all members of the Bonner County Sheriff's Office will focus on doing the right thing at all times - today and in the future. We will consult and plan before we act and decide.”
