Everyone should have to obey sidewalk law
In Sandpoint, since 2004, building a home means installing a sidewalk on adjoining public property. Owners/buildings of a new house at Third and Pacific want to be excused from providing sidewalks. City Council denied their request last year. But, they refused ' and are asking again.
The house is on a corner congested in the summer when people walk and drive Pacific to enjoy water views and folks of all ages flock to the Third Street Pier public park. Sidewalks will help separate fast teenage drivers from young kids carrying floaties at the corner. Should the sidewalks extend further? Yep, but we build piece by piece in Sandpoint and each section matters. Ask City Council to again say, 'Obey the law.' It promotes safety.
Most people obey the law with no fuss. Why should council ignore the ordinance, exempt people who do not comply and force everyone to walk in the street.
