SANDPOINT — The Panhandle Babe Ruth All Stars improved their record to 7-1 after winning both ends of a doubleheader played against the Walla Walla Blues and the Spokane Heat on Tuesday.

The team is preparing for a trip to the State Championships next week and appears to be picking up momentum.

They won the opener against the Walla Walla Blues behind the pitching of Michael Lorden, Sam Nitcy and Luther Morgan. Tyler Gordon, Nick Halpin and Luther Morgan combined for 7 RBIs to lead the offense.

The second game, against the Spokane Heat, was anything but a defensive battle. The pitching crew of Tevin Hamilton, Morgan, Jacob Clad and Markus Davis pitched solidly, but the Heat were really turning the bats.

The Panhandle gang was down by 4 runs when they exploded into the lead with a 10 run sixth inning. Scott Snow hit two doubles and drove in 4 runs, Gordon added another double driving in 3 runs, and Tucker Davis drove in three runs on three singles to lead the offense. Kyle Bradbury closed out the game pitching two scoreless innings.

The final home games of the season will be played this Thursday at 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. against the Leftbridge All Stars at Memorial Field.

The league has a special night planned with fresh food off the grill and John Zollo’s now-famous pulled pork sandwiches. Don’t bother cooking dinner and come on out to support the home team!
