A team of soon-to-be U13 and U14 Sandpoint Striker soccer players won the Spokane Cup championship last weekend.

The team defeated a tough Stevensville, Mont. team in the championship by a score of 3-2. The Strikers notched two 7-0 shutouts over teams from Spokane and Cheney to qualify for the championship.

Nearly every player scored, but Jeremiah Gagnon's hat trick plus one (four goals) in the opening game set the offensive pace throughout the tournament.

Brycen Oken, Treavor Franck, Joab Logan, Ash Dills, Christian Cook and Matthew Burgstahler all had outstanding goals.

The defense, led by Nathan Schwartz, Hunter King, Austin Keyes, Austin Johnson and Zach Carrouthers, had two shutouts in the tournament and were strong all weekend long.

Dylan Potter and Alex Mortenson also played well.

The team was coached by Matt Haggstrom and David Keyes. The team and coaches also won the “Best Sportsmanship” award for the tournament.
