Bee gives too much press to Democrats

| July 19, 2008 9:00 PM

The Daily Bee never ceases to amaze me on way they give free press to the Democrats and barely cover what is going on with the Republicans.

Coverage of Democrat Walt Minnick's recent visit to Sandpoint was certainly interesting. It must have been nice for the state's Democrats to see how the Daily Bee managed to dutifully write a campaign news story for Walt Minnick without even questioning any of the things he was saying. For example, Minnick goes around saying he's a “conservative” and the newspaper reports this as true. Unfortunately, the newspaper never bothers to ask what makes him a conservative. You would think his that declaration is contradicted by his interest in raising taxes and growing the size of government. Would a conservative really confess to having the goal of “bringing universal healthcare to Idaho,” as Mr. Minnick has?

And, while Minnick claims he's showing “leadership” on the energy issue, the reality is all he has done is “follow” the rhetoric of his Washington, D.C. Democrat handlers, who are catering to environmentalists and therefore will do nothing to reduce our dependence on foreign oil. Like Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid, Minnick has pitched the idea of forcing oil companies to drill on the lands they're already leasing, even if there's no oil underneath that land. That's their way of convincing the public they support reducing our reliance on foreign oil without actually drilling for any oil of our own.

The bottom line is everything about Minnick is phony. He's a liberal, environmentalist who will vote to raise your taxes if he's elected. I support Congressman Bill Sali because he represents Idaho's values, including lower taxes, less government and making America truly energy independent.

Publisher's note: Mrs. Brady, I had to chuckle at your comments about the Bee's coverage of the political parties. I heard from Democrats when we covered the GOP state convention here so heavily. Your campaign letter will come as a pleasant surprise to local Democrats who had written us off as a party organ of the GOP long ago.
