Play golf, help the food bank

| July 21, 2008 9:00 PM

SANDPOINT — Room is still available for any and all local golfers wanting to swing the sticks and have a good time while helping out a worthwhile cause.

Several Sandpoint area churches have joined forces to promote a fundraising golf tournament to benefit the Bonner County Food Bank. As part of a larger church-based initiative called “Serve Sandpoint,” local pastors and members are inviting the entire golfing community to participate in the First Annual Food Bank Golf Scramble at Stoneridge Golf Course on August 9.

The idea is to have a fun time, get some exercise and meet new friends, with all of the proceeds going to the food bank.

For those unfamiliar with scrambles they are made up of four person teams. Each team starts at the same time, each player then hits a tee-shot, then hits a ball from where the previous best shot landed. The result is a lower team score, more fun and faster play, especially for the less-experienced golfers.

Local businesses are encouraged to sponsor a hole by paying $100 for a sign on the tee boxes.

Everyone is welcome to play, and individuals will be combined into four person teams. Registration includes green fees, golf cart, T-shirt and lunch at the turn (nine holes).
