Curvy Clothing giving women more fashion choices

SANDPOINT — In a culture that often rewards women for starving themselves into a size 2 dress, finding attractive plus-size clothing can be a struggle.

With that problem in mind, Sandpoint’s Anita Hoag decided to open the area’s first clothing store aimed specifically at women who wear size 14 and up.

As someone who wasn’t, as she calls it, “a typical size,” Hoag spent most of her life searching out clothes that not only fit, but were as well-made and fashionable as those available to her friends.

With Curvy Clothing, Hoag and store manager Susan Bailey offer clothing and accessories that women would normally have to order online or leave the area for.

Open since May, Hoag said the store has been received warmly by local women because it has a comfortable, welcoming atmosphere and a great selection of goods.

The clothes, which are designed primarily for mature women, are more classic than trendy, but Hoag said there is something for everyone.

Curvy Clothing will celebrate its grand opening Aug. 2.

Located at 118 B North Second St., Curvy Clothing is open Tuesday-Saturday from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Hoag will also open the store by appointment in special cases.
