Put pressure on officials to make better choices

| June 2, 2008 9:00 PM

Now that the cat's out of the bag regarding the 'recycled glass' being buried by Bonner County, it's time to put the pressure on officials to make better choices regarding the transportation of our trash. The current transportation of our trash seven hours away to Arlington, Ore., is criminal.

The county and state need to come up with a viable recycling program that works for North Idaho. We need to be recycling glass, paperboard, all plastics and garden waste to name a few. It is insane that we are spending huge dollars and wasting gallons of expensive precious fuel to haul (or bury) our trash hundreds of miles away when we could really truly be recycling these products. Imagine the tax payer savings, not to mention the greenhouse gas reduction.
