Chemical eradication and a whole lot mrore
Many of us received a mailing letting us know about the service of 'The Eurasian Watermilfoil Information Center' in Sandpoint. This flier says that 'We will strive to keep the public updated on program activities ”
Hey, it's great to be informed but I want to bring to light how much more you're getting for your money. If you're like me, you'll ask yourself, 'Why is all the extra stuff needed?'
I want to state my position on the milfoil issue. I don't care what method is used or even if the stupid plant needs to be eradicated. I'm leaving that up to much smarter people who know a lot more about this than I do, and if chemicals are the most appropriate choice after taking in all the facets of this issue, so be it.
Still, I don't like my tax dollars being spent on selling me on an idea when the money is supposed to be paying for weed control. The 'we' in the brochure giving you the information you need to know is the very company hired to treat the plant. That's what got me thinking…
They are also the people renting office space, paying employees, printing brochures, designing and buying websites www.pendoreillemilfoil.com, paying for the phone line, and who knows what else I may have missed, all in an effort to keep us informed. We obviously need a lot of informing.
This is an amazing public relations effort that must be costing a lot of money. So, be informed that, you're getting so much more for your money than chemical treatment services. And because this is a private company, we may never know how much we're actually paying to treat the lake versus buying a huge public relations campaign.
