Gas prices make project unaffordable

| June 18, 2008 9:00 PM

With regards to the Sand Creek Bypass, does anyone know what price per gallon of gas or diesel did the Idaho Transportation Department use for its traffic projections? I'm not sitting around counting trucks, but I think there aren't as many trucks going through town as there were last year, and I think $5 diesel is the reason why.

With fuel prices going up and the economy going down, I think the state of Idaho had better be very sure there is a need for $60 million per mile road construction.

Again, what price per gallon of fuel was figured into the projections? That number is rather important when it comes to determining future traffic flows, don't you think?

I'm driving less. I think there are fewer trucks on the road. Let's spend that money on something that will help people handle high fuel prices.

It will take a lot of bankruptcies to bring gas back down to even $2/gallon. There are already a number of municipalities going bankrupt around the country. Let's not have any in Idaho.

Stop the bypass ' it's not economically justified.
