SANDPOINT - Unlike their comparatively tame American counterparts, Japanese game shows generally eschew the cerebral brain teasing of a “Jeopardy” or “Who Wants to Be Millionaire” in favor of over-the-top challenges and messy, physical stunts.

Beginning Tuesday, ABC will take a stab at the Japanese format with its newest summer reality show, “I survived a Japanese Game Show,” starring Sandpoint's own Darcy Sletager.

Sletager, 31, a photo editor at Coldwater Creek and mother of three girls, is bound by ABC's legal staff to stay mum about the show for now, but said she is excited to see the final product for the first time.

The show's premise is to send 10 Americans to Japan to try their luck at a Japanese game show, with the winner collecting $250,000 for their efforts.

Although she can't reveal anything about the show, Sletager admitted that she's both excited and nervous to find out how she is portrayed.

Her friends and family are just as curious to see the show, perhaps none more than her three daughters.

“My kids are thrilled out of their minds,” she said.

“I Survived a Japanese Game show” premiers June 24 at 8 p.m. on ABC.
