He graduated from University of California-Berkeley in 1963, joined his father in the family insurance business and in 1974 formed the insurance firm of Metzger & Wentner, Inc.

In 1990 he retired and moved to Sandpoint, where he enjoyed horses, boating, woodworking and remodeling and building houses and boats.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Anton and Melissa Wentner of Napili, Hawaii; his daughter, Lissa Wentner and Peter Gregory, of San Rafael, Calif.; his stepson, Mark Rinehart, of San Francisco, Calif.; and his dog, Skipper.

His mother and father, Lyle and Jessie Wentner; his brother, Bruce Wentner; and his sister, Marsha Citroen; preceded Alan in death.

He was a devoted father and friend, and will be remembered for his generosity, warmth and loving spirit.

There will be a celebration of Alan's life in Sandpoint this summer.

He will always be in our hearts.
