Vote down new property taxes

| March 3, 2008 8:00 PM

More economists say recession has begun coupled with rising inflation. Locally snow emergency/disaster declared.

Residents incurring hundreds/thousands snow removal/property repair costs.

Flood damage a possibility. Coldwater Creek layoffs, lumber industry depressed, real estate sales/new construction dead.

Federal government enacted Economic Stimulus Package. Federal Reserve continually cutting prime interest rate.

State trimming expenditures. Sandpoint rethinking LID taxes. County won't proceed with new detention center if requires new taxes.

LPOSD, however, plans $14.1 million facilities levy. If property assessed at $300,000 that's $402 or 33 percent taken from a couple's federal stimulus refund; if single, 67 percent.

LPOSD insensitive to property owners to attempt new taxes in current economic and local winter climates.

LPOSD out of touch with reality demonstrated by recent board members comment “economy may be a moot point because usually when people talk about it being in bad shape situation has improved” How Ridiculous! Experts indicate a further weakening.

Schools may not be in A-1 shape but are functional, have been since ‘06 when similar levy soundly defeated. Education world was to end then but didn't and won't now. LPOSD must make do just like the rest of us. Facilities don't educate, teachers educate.

What about the million unspecified contingency fluff?

LPOSD is only entity planning new taxes. Other government entities attempting to conserve and stimulate economy by avoiding them while LPOSD's new taxes suppress it.

Voters should “do the right thing” by soundly defeating May proposed levy. We can't control nature or locally the economy but sure can rein in LPOSD. Vote no!
