Hildegard M. 'Hilda' Johnson, 65

Hildegard M. “Hilda” Johnson, 65, died at her home in the Bitterroot Mountains above Sandpoint, Idaho, on a beautiful snowy morning, Sunday March 2, 2008, following a courageous six-year battle with cancer.

Hilda was born March 12, 1942, in Stark County, N.D., to the late John and Rose Sticka. Her family moved to Woodburn, Ore., in 1947 where she was raised with her nine brothers and sisters on the family farm.

In 1960 she married Raymond Brumbaugh (deceased) and had two children. She later wed Eldon Johnson on Dec. 30, 1966, and together they raised her two children in Sherwood, Ore. They moved to a small farm in Aurora in 1981 and finally retired to Sandpoint in 1991.

She was a member of St Joseph's Catholic Church in Sandpoint, where she served with the Altar Society, and helped out at the soup kitchen. She enjoyed gardening and reading as well as entertaining for her many friends on the mountain.

She is survived by her husband, Eldon; and her two children, Kimberly Geibel of Spokane, Wash., and Charles Johnson of Wilsonville, Ore. She also is survived by her five grandchildren, Marissa Zocco, Ryan Johnson, Dakota Johnson, Jessica Geibel, and Rebecca Geibel.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 8, 2008, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 615 Oak St., Sandpoint. There will be a Vigil Service at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 7, at 109 N Division, Sandpoint, Idaho.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society on Hilda's behalf.
