SANDPOINT - The window to file declarations of candidacy for elected office in Bonner County opens Monday.
All candidates who want their names on the voting ballots have until 5 p.m. on March 21 to file their declarations at the Bonner County Clerk's Office, located on the first floor of the county courthouse at 215 South First Avenue. Write-ins have until May 13 to declare their intentions.
Idaho's primary election is May 27 and the general election is Nov. 4.
Blank candidate declaration forms are available at the clerk's office and can also be downloaded from the clerk's election page on the county Web site (www.co.bonner.id.us).
Voters in the 2008 election cycle will be casting ballots for county commission districts 1 and 2, sheriff and prosecuting attorney.
Those seeking commission seats must reside within the boundaries of that district. District 1 is comprised of the Airport, Algoma, Careywood, Cocolalla, Dover, Gamlin Lake, Laclede, Lakeview, Sagle, Sandpoint, Selle, Southside and Westmond voting precincts. District 2 is comprised of the Blue Lake, Edgemere, East Priest River, Lamb Creek, Oldtown, Priest Lake, Priest River West City, Spirit Valley, Washington, West Branch, West Priest River Bench and Wrenco precincts.
Although no candidates have formally declared, a number of residents have signaled their intentions to run for office.
Potential District 1 candidates include incumbent Todd Crossett (D) and John Reuter (R). Incumbent Joe Young is expected to seek re-election to the District 2 seat. Rocky Jordan, Evan “Chip” Roos, Geoffrey Rusho and incumbent Elaine Savage, all of whom are Republicans, are anticipated to run for sheriff. Louis Marshall (R) is running for prosecutor.
Those seeking election to the Idaho Legislature file their declarations with the secretary of state.
