Broadsword seeking a second term

BOISE - Idaho state Sen. Joyce Broadsword, R-Cocolalla, said Monday she plans to run for re-election in District 2.

“It has been an honor and a privilege to represent the good people of District 2 for the past four years,” Broadsword said. “I have made great progress in keeping the concerns of my constituents at the top of the list in Boise but there is more work to do.

Broadsword will be seeking her third term in office. She said that among her accomplishments this term, perhaps the most noteworthy has been in the arena of water adjudication in North Idaho.

“We have slowed down the process of adjudication, passed legislation to reduce fees and allowed domestic and stock water users to opt out of adjudication if they prefer,” she said. “Personal property rights are paramount for me, and I will always fight for them on your behalf.”

She is a member of the Joint Finance Appropriations Committee.

“I am committed to conservative, reasonable budgets, especially in this time of economic slowdown,” she said. “Your tax dollars are too important to ever be spent carelessly. That's why I'm also a proponent of zero-based budgeting, which will allow the governor to review the budgets of all state agencies, ensuring efficiency and eliminating wasteful spending.”

Broadsword is also vice chair of the Health and Welfare Committee and serves on the Commerce and Human Resources Committee.

She serves on the Western Legislative Forestry Task Force, the Idaho Rural Partnerships board of directors, and the 2010 Olympic Committee.

Broadsword also co-owns a log home manufacturing company and a construction development company in North Idaho. She is married with three sons and three grandchildren.
