Wearing fur not sign of being cruel person

| March 10, 2008 9:00 PM

This is in response to the anti-fur letter mistitled compassion.

Well, we certainly know “PETA”-nese when we read it and now we get to see it creeping into our area.

I wear fur. I also have a long snowmobile trip to get out.

You were right in one thing, this fur-wearer is “very kind, sensitive and carin.” I am also warm. As for fashion, I could care less.

None of us (here), that read your letter, have been busy anally electrocuting any critters. For the most part, we are hunters who harvest a game animal with a clean, concise shot. Some of us raise livestock and I have never seen any of these kind-hearted, down to earth people mistreat an animal. When these animals are put down, it is quickly and with “compassion.” Then, we give thanks for the food (and even the hides) provided.

There is a big difference between a family raising a healthy cow, to feed their family, and your example of “cruel beatings and strangulations.”

There is also a big difference in hunting an animal for food, and your sensationalized version of animals being “skinned alive.”

That's just too weird for me to comment further on.

Recognize, that you live in a farming/hunting community. And, while I can appreciate your opinion on meat-eating, your sensitive feelings on this matter do not, in the least, give you license to insinuate that the rest of us are not compassionate, simply because we DO choose to eat meat.
