Fio, Rosholt nab NCAA berths; join Feist, Hall

| March 11, 2008 9:00 PM

Former Bulldogs Jared Rosholt and Joey Fio will join fellow alumni Luke Feist, of Stanford, at the NCAA Championships March 20-22 in St Louis, Missouri. Once again, the Bulldogs rank among the nation leaders in producing NCAA qualifiers.

Rosholt, who won his first two state titles with the Bulldogs, captured his first Big XII conference title for the Cowboys of Oklahoma State. The heavyweight sophomore pinned Jon May of Nebraska to advance to the finals. In the championship match, Rosholt avenged an early season loss to David Zabrieki, of Iowa State, with a 9-5 decision.

Earlier in the tournament, Oklahoma's true freshman Joey Fio, 125, secured a third place finish in a weight class teeming with nationally ranked competitors. After dropping a first round loss to Oklahoma State's Tyler Shinn, the former two-time Idaho state champion secured a dominating 10-4 decision over John Olanowski of Michigan. In the consolation finals, Fio upended Iowa State's Tyler Clark to secure his first trip to the National Championships.

Feist, who won three state titles at Sandpoint, finished third last weekend in the Pac 10 Championships at 174 pounds, also securing a berth in the elite national field.

Former Bonners Ferry and current Boise State wrestler Adam Hall will also compete in his first NCAA Championships, earning a berth last week at 149 pounds.

ESPNU will provide coverage of the live coverage of this year's championship on both Friday and Saturday afternoon, March 21-22, with ESPN providing live coverage from 5:30-8 p.m. on Saturday, March 22.
