City's zoning laws prohibit snow dumping

| March 12, 2008 9:00 PM

I am responding to Harry Gustafson's letter regarding the commercial snow being dumped on a residentially zoned A empty lot at the corner of Dearborn and Third Avenue South. Harry, you are uninformed and obviously do not live in this flood zone and did not have to listen to the snow rig's ridiculous noise at 2, 3 and 4 o'clock in the morning, which is against the noise ordinance of Sandpoint.

Applauding a millionaire for allowing snow to be dumped onto her empty lot is a joke - she was paid (per her own admission). But that is not the point - Sandpoint citizens should be aware there are no city ordinances preventing anyone from dumping anything they want on their lots, whether empty or not, and it could be anything up to toxic waste. That's the issue, Harry darling.

If you are a concerned citizen, which I truly doubt, you have missed the point. And there are zoning laws against the use of anything other than as an empty residential lot. And finally, there are three witnesses as to the alcohol on the driver on the night of Jan. 31, including the two officers, one being a captain, who did test this man for alcohol and it was the police's idea to do so because the smell almost knocked us all over. So get your facts straight, Harry.

And this is my business - maybe you should follow your own advice.
