Going vegetarian won't end cruelty to animals

| March 12, 2008 9:00 PM

I just had to respond to “End animals' suffering and become vegetarian.” Eric, I love ya, man, but I don't think you've thought this all the way through.

Think, just for a moment, if every person in America became vegetarian. Think what that would do to the economy. Think of all the millions of people who would suddenly be out of work. Every person involved in raising, processing and selling meat products. Then there would be the fact that we just wouldn't need any of those cows, sheep, pigs or chickens. Just like that, we'd have to dispose of them. I doubt you'd find many farmers or ranchers who would raise them as pets. After all, that's their livelihood.

I do agree with you totally of the sadness of animal cruelty. Our country needs to have more watchdogs to guard against that. And we should come out of the caveman era and stop wearing the animal hides. As far as everyone becoming vegetarian, not such a good idea. But, each person has to do what's right for them.

I believe God's word tells us man is to have dominion over every fish of the sea, bird of the air and all the beasts of the field. Interpret that as you will.
