Bulldogs drop two in Boise

| March 28, 2008 9:00 PM

BOISE - The Sandpoint softball team bounced back from a rough showing in Lewiston to hold their own against some tough competition from Boise Friday at the Idaho Sporting Goods Tournament.

Senior Erin Cometto belted four hits, including a triple and a double, and the Bulldogs' defense was greatly improved as they lost game one 3-1 to 4A power Bishop Kelly, and 6-1 to 5A Mt. View. Considering it was a very windy day, Sandpoint (0-7) coach Derek Dickinson was very pleased with his team's play after struggling in Lewiston Wednesday.

“We competed much better today and handled the wind defensively,” said Dickinson. “Pitching is keeping us alive, we just have to get our offense going.”

Molly Givens pitched six effective innings in the loss to the Knights after relieving Amber Murphy early in the game. Rachel Hammack and Givens teamed up to go the distance in game two.

Heather Merwin and Rachel Hammack each added two hits and double for the Bulldogs, who continue today in the second and final day of the tournament.
